Ceremony for the CNRS Medal: James Drummond

The CNRS bronze medal award ceremony will be held on Tuesday April 24, 2012 at 15h at LAPTh.

The bronze medal award is in recognition of  a major work by a young researcher, making him a talented specialist in his domain. It is also an encouragement by the CNRS for the researcher to pursue an activity that has proven fruitful and well established.

 James Drummond area of research is field theory,  a quantum theory which describes  the world of particle physics. The award is in recognition of studies and discoveries of new mathematical structures in this theory. This work could lead to a novel formulation of field theory and revolutionary methods for the calculation of the probabilities that describe the scattering and production of particles at the colliders, such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.  This concerns in the first place quantum chromodynamics (QCD) which James and his collaborators at LAPTh are studying and which might well bring some surprises.This will allow to provide precise predictions to LHC experimentalists in order to better identify possible signals of new physics.
