Another blow for the dark matter interpretation of the Galactic Center Excess

For almost ten years, astronomers have been studying a mysterious diffuse radiation coming from the center of our Galaxy. Originally, it was thought that this radiation could originate from the elusive dark matter particles that many researchers are hoping to find. However, physicists from the University of Amsterdam and the Laboratoire d'Annecy-le-Vieux de Physique Théorique have now found further evidence that rapidly spinning neutron stars are a much more likely source for this radiation.

La Nuit de l'Antimatière à Annecy

Lauréat du prix de Thèse 2018 de la COMUE UGA

Vivian POULIN est l'un des 7 lauréats et lauréates du Prix de thèse 2018 de la Communauté Université Grenoble Alpes. Les travaux récompensés se distinguent par leur excellence et les progrès qu’ils représentent pour la connaissance. Vivian a effectué sa thèse en co-tutelle entre le Laboratoire d’Annecy-le-Vieux de Physique Théorique (LAPTh) et l'Université RWTH d’Aix-la-Chapelle sur les "signatures gravitationnelles et électromagnétiques de particules massives en Cosmologie". L'enjeu de son travail de thèse a été de développer des méthodes pour révéler la nature de la matière noire à travers son influence sur les observables cosmologiques existantes. Le prix sera décerné mardi 26 juin 2018 à Saint-Martin-d'Hères.

Johannes Henn, Director and Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute for Physics

Johannes Henn former Erasmus master student in physics at the Université de Savoie and former PhD student at LAPTh under the supervision of Prof. Emeri Sokatchev, has been appointed as a new Director at the Max Planck Institute for Physics. Johannes, 37 years old, is one of the world's leading experts in the research field of scattering amplitudes, which are used for the precise description of accelerator experiments. It is a very innovative research area, which establishes a close link between theoretical and experimental particle physics. Johannes has been running a research group for theoretical and mathematical physics at Mainz University since 2015.
